United Nations (UN) - UNFCCC
United Nations (UN) is the largest existing international organization. Created to maintain international peace and security, promotes friendly relations between nations, achieve international cooperation to solve global problems, and serve as a center that harmonizes the actions of nations.
On September 25, 2015, world leaders adopted a set of global goals, called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each objective has specific goals that must be achieved in the next 15 years.
Among these objectives are some related to sustainability, which are especially protected by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which promotes the strengthening of public awareness, on a global scale, of the problems related to climate change.
Ecostars supports UNFCCC secretariat in the achievement of SDG13 ‘Action for Climate’, thereby also supporting the achievement of other SDGs, such as’7. Affordable and clean energy ‘, ’11. Sustainable Cities and Communities’ and ’12. Responsible consumption and production ‘, as well as in the adoption of the Climate Neutral Now program, whose objective is the progressive reduction and compensation of the carbon footprint generated by hotels.
Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) establishes and manages the global sustainability standards (GSTC Criteria).
The GSTC is an independent and neutral organization, legally registered in the US as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, representing a diverse and global membership, including United Nations agencies, NGOs, national and provincial governments, major travel companies, hotels, tour operators, individuals and communities – all striving for best practices in sustainable tourism.
GSTC criteria serve as baseline standards for sustainability in travel and tourism. Ecostars is member of GSTC since 2021 and contributes to the adoption of these GSTC lines through the promotion of sustainable measures in the hotel industry.
