As traditional stars are a proxy of quality and service, Ecostars are a proxy of sustainability and efficiency. The lower it is a hotel energy and water consumption, the higher it will be its Ecostars rating.
In any case, having an Ecostars rating, even its lowest level (E* Limited Eco), is for a traveler an indication of a certain hotel sustainability and ecological care. Therefore, having any rating is better than not having an Ecostars rating.
Objective should be to get a rating, any, and start scaling to progressively reach higher levels. On the path the hotel will see its consumption decline up to 60%, with an operative cost reducion of up to 5%.
E* Limited Eco Hotel
Modest Ecostars level. Notwithstanding, travelers will prefer a hotel with this rating than without a rating, as E* level already proves a certain sustainability and efficiency care.
This level agglutinates hotels with a resource consumption per stay higher than 50% of the median of its category. Economic savings if sustainability measures are implemented could decrease consumption ~60% and operative costs ~5%.
E* Basic Eco Hotel
Indicates a reasonable ecological care. Easily accesible if a hotel has implemented minimum consumption savings measures.
Hotels on this level have a slightly higher consumption per stay than the average. Economic savings if new sustainability measures are introduced is estimated on ~40% of consumption, ~4% of operative costs.
E* Silver Eco Hotel
First level that proves sustainability above the median. Great base to keep implementing measures and reach the E**** Gold Eco, if decided.
On this level, economic savings if new sustainability measures are introduced is estimated to reach ~30% of consumption, with reduction of ~3% on operative costs.
E* Gold Eco Hotel
Superior efficiency indicator. Clear differentiator of eco care on the sector.
Hotels on this level have a clearly lower consumption per stay than the average of its category. Economic savings if new sustainability measures are introduced is estimated on ~20% of consumption, reducing operative costs by ~2%.
E* Platinum Eco Hotel
Maximum efficiency and sustainability level. Implies an excellent ecological care.
It is only credited to hotels with a resource consumption of at least less than half of the median. Even being the highest level, should not be considered an objective for all the hotels, but rather only for those that want to position as clearly ecological.
